Cohesio vs Double (formerly Keeper)
Double — Keeper until October 2025 — is the bookkeeping-native AI peer. It manages the month-end close through a two-way ledger sync and a client portal for transaction questions. Cohesio sits earlier in the month: onboarding and getting the documents in.
What Double (formerly Keeper) does well
Deep QuickBooks Online and Xero integration, questions anchored to the actual transaction, batched client notifications ('one notification, not ten'), and a premium, well-designed product rated 5/5 on G2. If your pain is the close itself, look here.
Pick Double (formerly Keeper) if
- Your bottleneck is the close — uncategorized transactions, ledger review, reporting.
- Every client is already connected to QBO or Xero.
- Per-client pricing fits how you bill.
Pick Cohesio if
- Your bottleneck is before the ledger: getting statements and answers in, reviewed, and handed off.
- You onboard clients before their books are connected to anything.
- You want clients to respond from a link without a portal login.

Who it’s really for
Double is built for a firm whose bottleneck is the close itself — categorizing transactions, resolving questions against a synced ledger, and getting from imported transactions to closed books faster. That’s a different problem than getting documents and answers in from a client in the first place, and Double’s workflow assumes the client is already connected to QuickBooks Online or Xero when the month starts. A firm still onboarding clients who aren’t yet connected to a ledger, or whose clients don’t want ledger access shared with a third tool, sits outside what Double is built to solve.
Where the workflows diverge
Double’s core mechanic is a two-way ledger sync: questions get anchored to a specific transaction already sitting in the books, batched into one client notification. Cohesio has no ledger dependency at all — documents and answers come in first, get reviewed against cited evidence, and only then hand off to whatever ledger the firm uses, including QuickBooks Online or Xero where that connection exists. The practical difference shows up for a brand-new client: Double’s workflow assumes a connected ledger to anchor questions to, while Cohesio’s onboarding runs before any ledger connection is required.
Migration considerations
Double bills per connected client with no seat limit, so a firm switching away should audit how many clients are actually active on the platform versus dormant, since every connected client counts toward the bill regardless of use. Because Double requires a live QuickBooks Online or Xero connection, disconnecting a client cleanly — rather than leaving a stale sync running in the background — is the main technical step before moving that client’s monthly intake elsewhere.
Pricing worked example: a four-person firm
Double doesn’t price by staff count at all — a four-person firm serving around thirty active clients on the Core tier would pay roughly $300 a month at $10 per connected client, or around $750 on the Plus tier at $25 per client, regardless of how many of those four people actually use the account day to day. Cohesio’s Team plan is a flat $99 a month for up to five staff and 60 active engagements, priced around firm capacity rather than client count. Which model costs less depends entirely on client count versus staff count — a firm with few staff but many small clients should run both numbers before deciding.
